Revenge is quite possibly the harshest bands ever to play. They play louder and heavier and faster than almost any other band I've heard. The release I'm posting (their first EP) is a pummeling assault on the senses that leaves you panting, full of energy, ready to smash a chair or... yell really loudly.
For me, what really makes Revenge a great band is James Reads' drumming. He's the "How'd They Do That" of drummers. So many aspects of his drumming stand out, like his extreme speed of blast beats, his bizarre and none-sensical fills as well as the way he tunes and records his kit. As a drummer, every time I listen to one of his bands, it's like watching a magic trick that just leaves you so amazed and confused. While I would love to know how he does it, the mystique and intimidating aura surrounding Revenge leaves me content.
Revenge recently released their third full-lengthed album entitled Infiltration.Downfall.Death. which I believe to be their best full-length. It is their EPs that do it for me. Between Attack.Blood.Revenge. and the 2-track EP Superion.Command.Destroy, I have all the Revenge I really need. While their first album, Triumph.Genocide.Antichrist., contains some their best written material, the sound is so thin and weak, it leaves much to be desired. Their second album, Victory.Intolerance.Mastery., is noisy and disgusting and really kicks you in the nuts but the song-writting is uninteresting. The most redeeming quality on that album is Reads' drumming, especially on "Hate Oath." Worth a listen. Their material can be ordered from labels like Nuclear War Now!, Hell's Headbangers, Osmose, etc. Go buy their shit.
